Bio

Born in 1983, in Baishan, Jilin Province, Geng Xue attended the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, graduating in 2007. In 2013 she studied video production at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany, and in 2014 she was awarded an MFA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where renowned artist Xu Bing was her mentor. Her chosen medium of porcelain reflects her passionate interest in traditions of Chinese culture, but with her ability to innovate and experiment she aligns this ancient material with the new media of video and animation. Widely exhibited in solo and group shows internationally, Geng Xue’s work reveals how Chinese artists incorporate significant historical art and craft practices into the context of global contemporary art. Geng Xue lives and works in Beijing.
